Why I have not posted on the 2008 elections

I have a lot of passions, theology being first and foremost, but politics also is part of my passion set.  And yet, not one post on the elections of 2008.  Why?

Simple - its still a year and a half away.  Look, remember the country in June 2005?  Bush was pushing social security reform, there was talk in Congress of reducing our troop levels in Iraq because it looked like the mission was winding down, the economy was almost too hot and causing interest rate increases, and there were serious discussions of whether Bush could win in 2006 and get the Senate Republican count up to 60.

A lot happens in 18 months.  Wars go from okay to horrible.  Economies stagnate.  Issues rise and fall.  So quite honestly, I really dont care what any candidate is saying right now.  The issues today are not going to be the issues (most likely) in 2008.  And to be honest, what little I am hearing makes me think back to Kent Brockman’s sentence in the Simpson’s episode when Springfield is about to be destroyed by a comet and Congress votes down the rescue Springfield bill because they attach funding for the obsene arts:

“I’ve said it before people, democracy simply doesn’t work.”

Anyways, perhaps I am one of those people who, according to a Reuters report are suffering from “Campaign Fatigue.” Maybe I can get disability for that?  I will get serious about choosing a candidate when the issues are clarified.  I will get serious about following the campaigns when it is time.  Until then, sorry, its just boring.
