Mark Steyn Nails the Fall of Western Civlization
I am not one of the doom and gloom people. It doesn’t pay to be pessimistic. Having said that…
Western culture is in a serious challenge. I love Islamic culture, and have the utmost respect for Muslims and the Islamic faith, even though I believe that it is patently wrong, and that the God of Islam and the God revealed in Jesus Christ are in direct contradiction (see my paper on this topic, “Is the God of Islam the Father of Jesus” on the website somewhere).
But Islam is not a liberal (in the best meaning of that word) culture. As Orson Scott Card paints wonderfully in his Bean series book, Shadow of the Giant no faith that does not allow people to leave it can ever truly be a religious faith. And thus, the great challenge in Western Culture today is whether we are willing to put down our own immediate gratification for the sake of the preservation of something bigger than ourselves.
Mark Steyn, a Canadian/Brit and columnist to the world, has an outstanding piece at Opinion Journal. This is a must (allbeit) long read. Let me know your thoughts…
