Amazing Grace - Easily the Best Film in Years

Look, I am no film critic (for that, see my friend Brandon Fibbs over at http://thefilmsnob.blogspot.com), but I know what I like.  The past couple of years have not been very good for films. And I mean films that are both well acted, well directed, providing a movie story, and that you want to or are compelled to go back and see.

Finally this year we have such a film.  Amazing Grace was an incredible film.  It was all the things i said above, but it was more. We live in a country today that is very divided.  Call it Red Vs. Blue, Religious Vs. Secular.  Whatever.  While Amazing Grace is abuot the Christian politician William Wilberforce, it is about much more.  It is about a society coming together to decide to end a practice that was vile and destructive.  It was about Tories and Whigs actually acting together. It was about human rights. Whether you are on the left or the right, religious or secular, this film is for you.  It is a reminder of how much doing good things costs, and how easily other things (the War with France, marriage, sickness) can get in the way of doing the right things.

Go and see this film, take your neighbour, and then have coffee afterwards (with slave free suger hopefully).  Discuss it, and let’s decide what we can agree on and work together for that.
