New Class Notes - A Class on Calling
This past Fall I taught a new class at First Presbyterian of Colorado Springs. For the first time in my life I taught on “Calling.” As I studied I found that callings in the Bible can fall into five different types:
1) General Calling to all of God’s People of Transformation
2) General Calling to all of God’s People of Being a Blessing
3) Specific Callings of religious vocation, or serving to and for the people of God
4) Specific Callings of a short-term nature
5) Specific Callings to the world and life beyond “church”
These notes are different than my previous ones. They are more interactive and less didactic. Hope they are blessing to you.

An Old Paper - The Kingdom of God
Back in 1998 I decided to do what essentially became my Master’s thesis. Thanks to the guidance of Dr. Darrell Guder, who is a brilliant missional theologian, I wrote the following paper focused on a) understanding what we mean by the Kingdom of God b) seeing if that is the correct template to understand success for our mission’s projects and c) which authors get closest to the Kingdom in their mission theology.

The Book of Galatians
Well, just finished up my last handout for my class on Galatians. I have fallen in love with the book, which happens everytime I teach on one of the books of the Bible.
Now I know why Martin Luther called Galatians “my own book.” This little (it takes less than 15 minutes to read) book tucked in after the New Testament behemoths Acts, Romans and 1&2 Corinthians has a lot tucked into it. There is more on the meaning of the cross, the balance between law and Cross, and the role of the Spirit in this little Epistle than you shake the proverbial stick at. Hope you find my handout useful!
Week 1 - Galatians 1 to 2:10 Galatians_Week_1.doc
Week 2 - Galatians 2:11 to 3:29 Galatians_Week_2.doc
Week 3 - Galatians 4:1 to 5:15 Galatians_Week_3.doc
Week 4 - Galatians 5:16 to 6:18 Galatians_Week_4.doc

Notes on A Fresh Perspective on Paul
My latest class at First Presbyterian Church was on Paul. Bishop Dr. Tom Wright, the greatest living New Testament theologian, just published a new volume called, “Fresh Perspectives on Paul.” Using some of his ideas and some of my own, I taught five weeks on the topic.
Week 1 is Paul and Egalitarian Humanity
Week 2 is Paul and a new understanding of God
Week 3 is Paul and Creation and Covenant
Week 4 is Paul and Life after Life after Death (the topic of Bishop Wright’s Didsbury Lectures in 2005)
Week 5 is Paul and LALAD Week2

The Parables of Jesus
I taught the following course at First Presbyterian Church during their evening educational program called Getting Together Wednesdays (GTW) during November of 2004. This course covered the parables of Jesus in the four Gospels. However, what is covered in this course is not just limited to the traditional spoken parables.
Week 1 focused on the four gospels and their differences and similiarities. In each of the four gospels, I focused on parables that were unique to each gospel and in general, ones that are not normally focused on (including what I called enacted pararbles - actions of Jesus that serve as parables - ways of communicating deeper truth).
Week 2 - The Parables of the Gospel of Matthew
Week 3 - The Parables of the Gospel of Mark
Week 4 - The Parables of the Gosepl of John
Week 5 - The Parables of the Surprising Kingdom of God in the Gospel of Luke

Theology of the Gospel of Luke
The following is a paper that I wrote for my Gospel class in Seminary. When reading the Gospel of Luke, I think you have to come to it with the idea
that the Gospel of God is an upside down reality.
This paper is a companion to the presentation handout on the parable of the Gospel of Luke.
