Does Grace Bring Dedication?

In the past 2 days I have been struck again by the zeal and willingness to sacrifice of people of other faiths.  It has raised that very uncomfortable question that such stories always raise…why aren’t Christians more like that.

On Friday I went and saw United 93 (my review on the previous posting).  Lets be clear, I am deeply troubled by any act of violence in the name of God.  But one cannot watch the dedication with which the four terrorists, their willing to sacrifice their own lives to serve the causes of God (as they very mistakenly understood it).  They acted even after sitting in the waiting lounge at the airport with their victims.  They acted after seeing and hearing people talk to loved ones whom they would never see again.  That is dedication.

United 93 – A Must See – The Roving Theologians Review

Well, I went and saw the film.  And, I think it is one of the best films of its type I have seen. It has the feel of both a documentary and of
a Greek tragedy, with impending doom only awaiting different choices and differnet actions.  If only…

Let me set the stage…

I got to the theater a little late, and after getting my ticket (somehow it seems trite to talk about the ticket kiosk issues, not accepting my credit card, but…well, it made me later), grabbed a bag of popcorn (its horrible on my stomach but I had a feeling I would need it to get through the film), and headed to Theater 11.  Sat down in the front row, as the previews were rolling.

What to Expect – United 93

Going to see the movie later today...oh boy.

Heading to the theater later this morning to see United 93.  Not sure what to expect. Okay, I am sure what to expect. This will probably be one of those emotionally exhausting movies that midway through I will be asking myself, “Why am I here watching this?”

The Gospel of Judas? Are You Kidding?

Is the Gospel of Judas a real challenge to the Christian faith?  Or, perhaps the better question, how do
I get National Geographic to do a special on my book?

I have been getting asked by a lot of people, “So what do you think about this new gospel?” Well, not much to tell you the truth. While National Geographic did a great job of marketing this little book, for those in the religious studies arena, this is about as big a story as that fact that there is good skiing in Vail.

The Truth About Oil…

Is cheap oil our birthright?  Is it the path to true happiness????

Okay, I admit, I just paid $38 to fill up the tank on my Saturn VUE, and I don’t like it.  Who would. When we bought the vehicle (the best gas mileage, safety and the only small SUV that could hold three car seats) three years ago it cost $20 max to filler up.  But, I am not going to go crazy like many people out there (Senator Chuck Shumer talking about breaking up the oil companies, yea, that will help).
